M.P. Surendran, popularly known as M.P.S., is a veteran journalist, acclaimed author, cultural organiser, and passionate advocate for Kerala’s history, environment, and arts. Hailing from Thrissur, his public life spans several decades and encompasses contributions across multiple fields including literature, journalism, heritage, football, cinema, music, and social justice.
After completing his postgraduate and short-term research studies, M.P. Surendran began his professional life as a teacher but soon transitioned to journalism. He joined Mathrubhumi in the early 1980s as a sub-editor, steadily rising through the ranks to become the Deputy Editor of the daily. He served in this senior editorial capacity until 2013 and was later appointed *Head of Programmes at Mathrubhumi News Channel*. During Mathrubhumi’s centenary celebrations, he served as Editor of the special edition, offering critical insights into Kerala’s socio-political journey.
